The Labrador Standard

GENERAL ASPECT
Strongly built, with short loins, very active. The Labrador's skull is wide, the chestwell descended and the ribs well developed; the loin and hindquarters are broad and powerful.

BEHAVIOR - CHARACTER
Good character, very agile, with an excellent nose, a dgentle ent with a passion for water. A faithful companion, able to adapt everywhere, the Labrador is Intelligent, ardent and docile, it only asks to please. Naturally friendly, without any trace of aggression; nor should he be excessively fearful.

HEAD
His skull is Large, well drawn without thick (meaty) cheeks, his stop is marked, its nose wide, the nostrils well developed.
Its muzzle is powerful and should not be whistled.
His jaws of medium length with strong teeth and presenting a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. the upper incisors overlap the lower ones in close contact and are set square to the jaws .
Its medium-sized eyes express intelligence and good character. Brown or hazelnut in color.
The ears are neither big nor heavy, they fall against the head and are set rather back.

NECK
Clean, powerful and solid, fitting into well-placed shoulders.

BODY
The top row is horizontal.
The loin is broad, short and strong.
The chest is broad and well let down with semicircular ribs.
This appearance should not be due to excess weight.

TAIL
Distinguishing feature of the breed: very thick at base tapering gradually towards the end, of medium length, devoid of feathering, but completely covered with a short, thick, dense coat which gives a plump appearance described under the name of "otter tail". It can be carried cheerfully, but it must not curl over the back.

MEMBERS
FOREQUARTERS
General view: The front legs are straight from the elbow to the ground, whetherbe seen from the front or in profile.
Shoulders: Long and oblique.
Forearms: Good bone and straight.
Forefeet: Round, compact: well arched toes and well developed pads.

HINDQUARTERS
Overall view: Well developed, the croup does not descend towards the tail.
Stifle (knee): Well angulated.
Metatarsus/Hock: The articulation (point) of the hocks is welldescended. Cow hocks are to be avoided.
Hind feet: Round, compact; well arched fingers andwell developed pads.

GAIT
Open gaits, covering good ground. The fore and hind limbs move in planes parallel to the axis of the body.

DRESS
Coat quality: The coat is a distinctive feature of the Labrador. He isshort and dense, without waves or fringes; it gives to the touchthe feeling of being quite rough; the undercoat is weather resistant.

COAT COLOR
Entirely black, yellow or brown (liver-chocolate).
Yellow ranges from light cream to red (fox). A little stainwhite is allowed on the chest.

SIZE
Ideal height at the withers
Males: 56 – 57 cm
Females: 54 – 56 cm

DEFAULTS : Any deviation from the above should be considered as a defect which will be penalized according to its severity and its consequences on the dog's health and well-being and on its ability to perform its traditional work.

FAULTS LEADING TO EXCLUSION:
• Aggressive or fearful dog.
• Any dog presenting in an obvious way abnormalities of order
physical or behavioral will be disqualified.

NB:
• Males should have two normal looking testicles completely descended into the scrotum.
• Only healthy dogs capable of performing the functions for which they were selected, and whose morphology is typical of the breed, can be used for breeding.
