According to popular belief, theLabrador Retriever is native to the coasts of Newfoundland
where thefishermen were seen using a similar-looking dog tobring back the fish. Excellent water dog, its coat resistant toweather and its unique tail, the shape of which is similar to thatof an otter, increase this characteristic.
